Why Are Ionic Tower Air Purifiers Popular?
There have been many studies and reports made about the vast world of air cleaners, purifiers and filtration products readily available. Of those types, ionic tower air purifiers are very popular. These are large, slim, very expensive air purifiers that have been almost universally condemned for being useless or even unhealthy. The product review magazine "Consumer Reports" blasted them, and later on the EPA announced that they saw no benefit to having one. And yet, ionic tower air purifiers still sell by the truckload. Why?
Beware The Boogeyman
Life is full of unknown fears we can't really do anything about. The easiest way to sell anything is make somebody afraid of some unseen enemy and then, when they're quaking, offer the solution. In this way, we've strung up ropes of garlic to ward off vampires, modified our children's behavior with stories of the Boogeyman, and spend gobs of money fighting terrorism.
In this particular day and age, terrorists are now considered scarier than the Boogeyman or even Communists. You can see a Communist coming. But terrorists are invisible, and their actions come out of the clear blue sky. Ionic tower air purifiers have capitalized on North American's fears of terrorists in a post 9/11 world.
Germs, pollutants and allergens share a lot in common with terrorists. You can't see them, but yet they can make your life miserable. When you become afraid of something you can't see, you are put under a great amount of stress and loose your sense of perspective. How wise you feel being able to guard against enemies you can't see by getting an ionic tower air purifier.
But I Feel So Much Better…
When you think you have defended yourself and your home from an invisible threat, you do feel good about yourself. This is why things like life insurance sells so well. But, unlike life insurance, you and your family won’t get much of a benefit from ionic tower air purifiers. But you will insist that you do because you have felt so much better after getting the costly gadget.
The reason you feel better after buying something like an ionic tower air purifier has nothing to do with the thing that you purchased. It is your own mind making you feel better. This is called the placebo effect. This is referred to often in medical trials, but this also happens in other areas of life. Just doing something new can often make you feel better.
